DLP'S BIG IDEAS
At Eastwards Consortium, our focus is primarily on educating and developing the next generation of our society. To assist in this, we use our well-known ‘Big Book of Ideas’, a set of activities and tasks focused around pupil development.
Below you will find a set of tabs which depict these tasks further. If you find children are struggling with a task or, on the other hand, passing with flying colours, indications and suggestions are proposed in each section to ensure you keep all children challenged and on-task as much as possible.
To view these sections, simply click on the respective tab and watch it magically appear!
LOCATING THE DIRECTION OF LESS OBVIOUS SOUNDS
MAIN ACTIVITY
- Choose a favourite noisy toy of the child’s.
- Tell the child to close their eyes.
- Start shaking the toy so that it makes a noise.
- The child needs to open their eyes and location of the sound.
HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS ACTIVITY MORE CHALLENGING?
- Choose quieter toys so that the child needs to hear more closely.
HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS ACTIVITY EASIER?
- Have the child’s eyes open first to allow them to understand that the toy can be moved into different locations.
WATCHING, REMEMBERING, AND COPYING WHAT SOMEONE ELSE IS DOING
MAIN ACTIVITY
- Play the game ‘Follow The Leader’ with the child.
- Carry out different actions and the child must copy your actions. For example, clapping, jumping etc.
HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS ACTIVITY MORE CHALLENGING?
- Get the child to also copy facial expressions.
- Ask the child to become the leader and you have to copy.
- Do a sequence of two actions. For example, clapping and then jumping straight away.
HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS ACTIVITY EASIER?
- Choose simple actions that the child can copy. For example, clapping.
- Show the child an example by using toys.
MUSICAL STATUES
MAIN ACTIVITY
- Play the game ‘Musical Statues’ with the child.
- Tell the child that you are going to play some music and when the music stops, the child must stop and stand still like a statue.
HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS ACTIVITY MORE CHALLENGING?
- Play the music quieter so that the child has to listen more quietly.
- Play animal sounds and tell the child to act like the animal.
- Stop the music at quicker intervals to ensure that that the child is listening more attentively.
HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS ACTIVITY EASIER?
- Keep the music pauses longer so that the child has a short break in between.
- If standing as a statue is too difficult, then play ‘Musical Chairs.’
